Discover Taiwan’s new TPASS initiative for non-commuters, set to launch by the end of 2024. Aimed at encouraging public transport use, it offers flexible options beyond the commuter-focused monthly pass.

The Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC) plans to recruit over 100 new talents, including maintenance technicians, engineers, and professionals in various fields. Generous offers include a monthly salary of up to NT$48,000 for electrical and signal maintenance technicians. The corporation provides comprehensive employee benefits, such as allowances and subsidies for food, clothing, accommodation, transportation, education, and entertainment. New employees will undergo three to six months of comprehensive training and must pass an assessment before starting their shifts. The THSRC also offers educational training opportunities for employees to complete professional training effectively and safely.

The Yunlin County Government has announced the sale of its TPASS ticket, priced at NT＄199, which will become active next Tuesday. The TPASS integrates various modes of public transportation within the county, including Taiwan Railway, highway buses, local city buses, and public bicycles, providing an economical solution for commuters. The pass allows unlimited use for 30 days, covering 69 highway and city bus routes and five Taiwan railway stations. Pass holders will also enjoy the first 30 minutes of public bicycle use without charge. The Yunlin TPASS is tied with Hualien for the lowest-priced monthly transit pass nationwide and covers the most extensive range of transit routes within a single county or city. To celebrate the launch, pass holders can enjoy an exclusive promotion, including a ＂buy one, get one free＂ offer for two people traveling together from Douliu Train Station to Janfusun Theme Park by presenting their TPASS ticket stub.

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense (MND) has announced that conscripted soldiers who fail to pass their basic training will receive a base salary of approximately NT$10,000, without eligibility for professional bonuses or honor leave. The new one-year mandatory service, starting in January 2024, requires conscripts to undergo 8 weeks of basic training followed by 44 weeks of unit training. The basic training curriculum includes combat instruction, tactical marching, and battlefield medical aid courses. Only those who pass the basic training and obtain the ＂Completion of Training Specialty Certificate＂ will qualify for an additional monthly professional bonus of NT$10,190, bringing their total monthly salary to NT$20,320. To ensure training effectiveness, the MND has also issued guidelines for supplementary training and re-tests for conscripts who fail to meet the standards.

The TPASS Commuter Monthly Pass has hit a milestone as it reaches its one-month mark on the market, with an impressive 419,000 cards sold in the Greater Taipei and Taoyuan metropolitan area. 

The new public transportation monthly pass, TPASS, has totaled 4.6 million rides among Taiwan’s three big ＂living circles＂ over the past six days, according to the latest statistics released on Friday (July 7) by the Directorate General of Highways (DGH) under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications.

President Tsai Ing-wen visited Taipei Main Station on Monday (July 3) to oversee its implementation of the TPASS, a newly introduced monthly public transportation pass launched two days earlier, and ask for feedback from commuters. 

Taipei City Government announced on Saturday that the new NT$1,200 monthly public transport pass program will be available for sale from June 15, ahead of the originally planned start date of July 1. The new program is expected to attract approximately 420,000 commuters during the first wave of sales.

Commuters in Kaohsiung can now enjoy unlimited rides on mass transit systems with the new NT$399 monthly pass.
